Disputes arising over construction contracts can become complicated and time consuming issues to resolve. With the expense of construction projects or the reputation of your business on the line, turning to an experienced lawyer for guidance through construction contract disputes can be an effective strategy for finding the swift resolutions you need.

At the Law Offices of Sterling C. Johnson, I offer experienced construction contract dispute representation to homeowners, contractors and architects in the California Bay Area. Over my last 30 years as an attorney, I have learned the proper techniques for addressing various construction contract dispute issues, including questions over remodels, ground-up builds, contract disputes, mechanic's liens, questions about designs, failure of materials and craftsmanship.

Experienced, Meticulous, Knowledgeable

Over the years, I have learned how to address various construction contract dispute matters, including the three most common issues:

  • Mechanics liens: Generally employed in situations of non-payment on behalf of homeowners or contractors to materials suppliers, mechanics liens serve to put pressure on the parties to live up to their financial obligations. With a mechanics lien in place, the homeowner may be unable to sell or transfer property. There are methods to eliminate stale mechanics liens, or liens that have not been foreclosed on, and I will guide you through the process of clearing title to your property.
  • Extras: Controlling additional construction costs in situations involving homeowners wanting to change a detail of the construction or upgrade to different materials can be a difficult task. These changes can often double construction estimates, leading to much infighting between homeowners, contractors and architects. My work is designed to limit the dispute, by negotiating acceptable changes to the original contracts.
  • Lack of timeliness: While various factors can impact the timeline of a construction project, contractor who do not complete the work in a timely manner can often face disputes with homeowners. I work to alleviate the frustration between the parties in hope of bringing closure to the matter.

As a preemptive measure, I also offer my services during the initial drafting of contracts, providing a thorough review of the proposed construction contract to evaluate whether the contract is in your best interests.
